First Steps Reading Plan

Welcome to the First Steps Reading Plan. First Steps will help you explore faith and discover who Jesus is and why relationship with him is so important. The First Steps plan is meant to be read over sixty days, one chapter a day, but you can go at your own pace and check off each day as you complete the reading.

The best way to use this plan is to set aside 20 minutes by making an appointment with yourself at the same time each day. Use a Bible that is a modern-language, easy to read translation, we suggest the New Living Translation 2nd Edition (what we use on Sundays) or the New International Version.

As you start your time, say a quick sentence prayer asking God to help you understand what you are going to read. James 1:5 says that if we lack wisdom we should ask God and he will help us. All you have say is “God please help me to understand what I’m reading. Amen.” As you read, ask three questions about the chapter: What does this chapter tell me about God or Jesus? What does this chapter say about us? What do I need to do in response to what I’ve read? You may want to write down the thoughts that come to your mind as you read the chapter and discuss them with a friend later.
