Our world is changing!

The other day I visited the town of Bethlehem with a tour group of people from Living Hope.  A hundred years ago Bethlehem was 90% Christian and 10% Muslim. Now the town is 95% Muslim and 5% Christian. That is a significant change in 100 years.

In 2010 Muslims made up 23% of the world’s population; that’s 1.6 billion people. In Canada, as of 2011, Muslims made up 3.2% of the population. The latest census data is not available but I anticipate that because of the world-wide refugee crisis, this number will have  changed significantly since 2011.  One indicator is that according to the Saskatchewan government, Islam is now the 3rd largest religion in the province.

Our world is changing!

In Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus gives his disciples a commandment, to go and make disciples, teaching them the way of Jesus.  If we are going to obey this commandment today, as Jesus’ first disciples did, then we need to pay attention to the changes taking place in our world.

This weekend is a Global Impact Sunday. Two of Living Hope’s members live and work in a limited access Muslim country.   We’ll hear what God is doing in the Muslim world and how we can be equiped to reach the new neighbours moving in around us.

I hope you’ll join us this Sunday as we discover how we can be a local church with a global impact.

See you Sunday!

Reaching out at Christmas – Arcola Community School
For those who are not involved in a small group, we want to support our friends at Arcola Community School. We will provide gift bags full of much-needed practical items such as t-shirts, socks , and personal hygiene items for the children. Take a card containing a list of items and more information for each gift bag from the tree in the lobby. Thank you in advance for your generosity!

Serving on Christmas Eve
On Sunday, December 24 we will have three services at 10:30 am, 4 pm, and 7 pm. We encourage you to worship as a family at 10:30 and then serve together at the 4 pm or 7 pm service. Join us in extending a welcome to all who attend. If you are free to usher, greet, serve refreshments, or assist at the family party between services, please contact one of the pastors or the church office at info@mylivinghope.ca.

Work Bee
We would like to have a “work morning” at the church on Saturday, December 2, 9 am – noon. If you can volunteer some time, please respond to our lead custodian, Mike, at mikep@mylivinghope.ca.
