- If you could describe your emotional state with a color right now, what color would it be?
Discuss:
- When was a time you felt really seen and understood by someone? What did this person specifically do to make you feel seen and heard?
- Do you agree or disagree with the statement that historically the church has taught that emotions are not to be trusted? Has this been your experience or not?
- Considering Scripture has been used as a weapon against honest emotions, the comment was made that we should view Scripture as a companion not as a correction. Do you agree with this statement? If so, why? If not, why not and what would you change?
- What’s one lie the Church has believed about emotions and what truth can the lie be replaced with?
- If God’s presence isn’t emotionally felt but still faithfully given, how can we learn to discern God’s presence and voice during seasons of emotional pain?
- If emotional awareness is a spiritual practice, what one thing can you do this week to cultivate this skill?
Pray: Share requests and prayer together. Give this blessing at the end: May you know the God who sees you, who holds every emotion with care, and who promises His steadfast love through every season of the soul.
