Connect:
- Open in prayer
- Go over your “Rules of engagement” from last week. Anything you want to add, take away, or edit?
- Share about a time when you tried to do something with the wrong tool or without the power source (e.g., trying to start a car with a dead battery, running a power tool unplugged).
- How did it feel? How does that picture our spiritual lives?
Discussion:
- Jesus told the disciples it was better for Him to go so the Spirit could come. What’s shocking/confusing about that statement?
- How does the Spirit’s role in convicting the world (sin, righteousness, judgment) free us from the need to argue people into the Kingdom?
- If you can, break up into groups of 3 or 4. Take a few moments to listen to Holy Spirit. Ask Him to reveal anything you need to confess. After a few moments, share what Jesus revealed to you. Pray over what was shared.
- In your group, ask: Why do you think Jesus connected the Spirit’s power directly to witness rather than just personal blessing? Where in your life do you feel like you’re “rowing” in your own strength instead of “sailing” in the Spirit’s wind?
Prayer:
- Ask for prayer request over and above what was shared in the discussion. Pray for each other immediately after they share.
- As the leader, you can pray over everyone to finish your time together.
