Acts 18

Written by Kevin Gatschene

Today we are looking at acts 18.  In this chapter we see Paul travelling to Corinth where he meets Aquila and his wife Priscilla. Paul had a lot in common with them because just like Paul, Aquila was a tentmaker, during Paul’s time in Corinth he was invited to live with them. Priscilla and Aquila grew in great faith as they spent time with Paul. Paul made disciples of Priscilla and Aquila because of this common bond. Priscilla and Aquila then in turn discipled Apollo who is said to have been an eloquent speaker with knowledge of the scriptures.

Sometimes the people that we are to disciple are easy to see, they almost choose us, and the are so in love with the word that they go on disciple others.

But there is one other person in this chapter that we should look at. Sosthenes, he was the leader of the synagogue that was calling for a trial against Paul. When the governor threw out the case against Paul, Sosthenes was dragged out of the courtroom and beaten. Why is Sosthenes important? Flip over to 1Corinthians 1:1. “This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Jesus Christ and from our brother Sosthenes.”

After opposing Paul, it is possible Sosthenes himself became a disciple.

Sometimes it’s not only by our words that’s people come to know Jesus but by our actions, and sometimes those that oppose you today will become your allies tomorrow.

What do your actions say about you?

Who are you discipling through your actions today?
