  1. The definition of meekness was ‘patient humility characterized by submission to God’s sovereignty and an abdication of personal rights’. Do you know anyone who exemplifies this? What part of this definition appeals to you? What part is a struggle?
  2. When we are attacked or criticized, responding in meekness will disarm our critics and diffuse conflict. How does this epitomize the concept of strength under control? How do you apply God’s love to a situation when you don’t feel love or kindness towards the other person because of the way they have treated you?
  3. When we’re in conflict, what advice does Proverbs 15:1 have for us? Discuss how this piece of wisdom can defuse heated or difficult situations. Consider this statement, “When someone disappoints or offends me, be gentle, not judgmental.”
  4. From the following Scriptures, what are the rewards God has in store for those who are meek? Psalm 149:4, 25:9, 37:11, 147:6, Proverbs 3:3-4.
  5. In Matthew 11:29, Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle (praus, meek), and you will find rest for your souls”. What is Jesus asking you to give up in order to receive His rest? How does it help to meditate on the way that Jesus submitted his power and control on the cross in order to pursue relationship with you?
  6. Read Isaiah 65:17 and Revelation 21:1-3. How do these promises of a “new earth” factor into what Jesus says about the meek inheriting the earth?
