What are you passionate about?

What are you passionate about?

When I walk around the neighbourhood we live in, I can often tell what my neighbours are passionate about by what’s in their garage, in their yard, or, if they leave their blinds open enough, even their living room!  (I’m not a nosey neighbour, I’m just a curious person).

Sometimes I’ll notice a garage that is open and crammed full of vintage cars, and I know that person is passionate about cars. Sometimes I catch a glimpse of an urban oasis in the backyard, and I can tell they are passionate about the outdoors. Often, I see yards full of toys and activities for kids, and I can tell they are passionate about their family. One of my neighbours has an entire gym in their garage, which means to me she’s passionate about fitness. If someone walked by your house or peeked in your backyard, what would the way you live and the things they see reveal about your passions?  We are all passionate about something; what are you passionately devoted to, and what are the identifying marks?

In the Gospels, Jesus models a life that is passionately devoted to God. Everything Jesus did reveal his passion for God, and his passion for God impacted every relationship he had.  Jesus envisions that we would live a life defined by three relationships, UP, IN and OUT. Everything flows from our UP relationship, which is characterized by being passionately devoted to God.

This weekend as we continue our series “The Way,” we will be examining what it means to be passionately devoted to God. Together we will discover three marks of a passionately devoted life from the life of Jesus and two ways you can become passionately devoted to God just as Jesus envisions.

See you Sunday.
