My little brother was really into Transformers when we were growing up. Chad is thirteen years younger than me, and as his older brother, I was devoted to him and his dimpled cheeks. One of my favourite things was sitting down with my brother and watching Transformers together on Saturday mornings. I watched so many episodes of Transformers that I can still know the theme song off by heart:
“Transformers! More than meets the eye!
Autobots wage their battle to destroy the evil forces of the Decepticons!
Transformers! Robots in disguise!
Transformers more than meets the eye!
Transformers!”
Did you know that you share something in common with Autobots and Decepticons? Just as the fictional Transformers change from one thing to another, you are being changed into something new. If Jesus is your Lord and Saviour, then you are “More than meets the eye!” because you are being transformed by the Holy Spirit!
This weekend we are continuing to explore what we believe about Holy Spirit. Last week we looked at “Who Holy Spirit is,” and over the next three weeks, we are going to consider “What Holy Spirit does.” This Sunday, we will be looking at Romans 8:1-17, and the part Holy Spirit plays in our faith. I hope you’ll join us as we consider the transforming work of Holy Spirit in our lives.
