Scripture:  2 Corinthians 5:13-21

Main Thought:  With God, the reconciled become the reconcilers

Summary:  Reconciliation changes everything.  When you are reconciled with God you are changed, you gain a new perspective, you receive a new role and you have a new responsibility.  God changes you so that you will help others experience reconciliation with him and others.

Getting to Know Each Other:

  • What have you learned or what has stood out to you the most over the five weeks of this teaching series?
  • Has anything changed in your life or relationships because of what you’ve learned through the Reconciled series?
  • Has anyone ever said you were “out of your mind” to follow Jesus?

Going Deeper:

  1. Begin by reading the passage together.
  2. Paul says in 2 Corinthians 5:14, that “Christ’s love compels” him and this is the basis for his life.  How does Christ’s love compel you?  What are the things you do in life because of what Jesus did for you?
  3. How would you describe the worldview that of the average Reginan?  What are the key attitudes and characteristics of that worldview?
  4. How does your relationship with Jesus affect your worldview?  What should the worldview of a Christ-follower look like in contrast to the worldview of an average Reginan (as you defined it in question #2)?
  5. In 2 Corinthians 5:18 Paul says that we have been given the “ministry of reconciliation.”  What does it mean to be charged with the ministry of reconciliation?
  6. Paul describes himself as an Ambassador of God.  Based on your understanding of the events of Paul’s life, how do Paul’s actions demonstrate that he is an Ambassador of God?  (If you aren’t sure review Acts 16, 19, 24 and look for the type of actions that an Ambassador would typically do).
  7. In 2 Corinthians 5:21, Paul says that Jesus died for our sins so that we “might become the righteousness of God.”  What does this mean?
  8. Pastor Kirk defined “becoming the righteousness of God” as meaning that when we are reconciled with God we begin to reveal the character of God in this world.  What does the way you talk, act and live life reveal about the character of God to your friends, neighbours and co-workers?

Apply It:

  • What is the Holy Spirit saying to you about reconciliation?
  • What are you doing to help others experience reconciliation?  What needs to change in your life in order to help others experience reconciliation?  Do you need to embrace a new perspective, embrace your new role or embrace your new responsibility?
